Raking Leaves
Heidi had been anxiously awaiting this day all summer and fall. I'm not really sure where she had gotten the idea that raking leaves was fun, but it was in her head. All summer I was listening to "Please I have a rake, Momma?". When I spotted some child sized ones for a reasonable price I didn't hesitate to pick up two. Then we had a wet, cold fall in which the leaves were determined to stay on the trees. Every day I heard, "Please we rake the leaves today?", but there were no leaves on the ground. I began to be concerned that the ground would be covered with snow by the time the leaves fell! But fall they did, and there wasn't any snow yet, so on Monday, though we didn't feel well and it was a bit chilly, we raked the leaves! How happy was Heidi!

Maybe I should be learning from her
I love the enthusiasm with which Heidi greets the Word of God.
For example, this morning while listening to the story of Noah:
"Nobody else listened to God, but Noah listened to God, he believed God and he chose to obey God..."
"Great Job Noah!"

Cleaning Bug
I have been planning on cleaning and organizing Heidi's room for awhile, but apparently I needed a bit of a jump start. I discovered we had a mouse infestation and her room seemed hardest hit. This week has seen me thoroughly cleaning while dealing with the third week of the second round of nasty flu bug this fall. I've decided that 4-5 loads of laundry and the same number of dish drainers full of toys every day for a week really feels like enough.
During all this cleaning, I decided it was time to let Heidi discover her "secret passage way/play area". What a thrilling discovery that was! Thank you Papa Root!

I gave them a snack and allowed them to eat it there. What happy girls! How much I could suddenly get done without interference! Some may call this bribery, I prefer to think of it as creative problem solving.
When all but the furniture had been removed from the room, I let them help me mop the floor. That was not such creative problem solving on my part.
Heidi was actually a great help, and scrubbed with diligence.

I'm NOT pregnant, but...
I realized I no longer have an infant and was putting all my baby stuff away this week. Heidi, of course, asked me what I was doing, and began to request every item I put in the box. I told her I was saving these things in case God were ever to bless us with another baby.
"Oh, yes!" She exclaimed with stars in her eyes. "We could have another baby, Momma! God could give us one and I would name her Sheena! I would take care of her and love her and pat her, just like this!" as she demonstrates the patting on my leg.
"Well, it probably won't be for a long time, Heidi", I say, as I'm realizing she's now expecting a sibling within the week, "and what if He gives us a boy?"
A look of disgust passes her face, "He wouldn't do that, Momma, He will give us a little baby girl, and I will name her Sheena, or Spicy, or maybe pickley-toes. Well, maybe not Pickley-toes, but Sheena or Spicy. Yes, or Goola."
I hate to disappoint her, but I think Karl and I might do the naming if the chance presented itself, and personally, I'd be thrilled to be blessed with another little girl, OR boy, I just don't think it'll be happening within the week. As I told her, we'll leave the details up to God, He always knows what's right.
